Finding a surfboard to rent in Bali
Falaga is not a rental shop. What Justin Buu’lolo does is work out which board suits your surfing and the forecast, then point you at somewhere that has it — so you are not stuck with something too small on your first week, or too big on the day the swell finally arrives.
How it works
A recommendation, not an inventory
Rental shops will hand you whatever is by the door. The board that suits you depends on how much you have surfed, how much you weigh, and what the ocean is doing that week.
Tell Justin what you ride and where you are staying
How long you have surfed, what you normally ride at home, and roughly where you are based. That is enough to narrow it down.
He matches a board to you and the forecast
Soft-top, longboard, shortboard, step-up or groveller — chosen for your surfing and the conditions during your stay, not for what happens to be on the rack.
You rent it, and can change it if the swell changes
Bali can go from ankle-high to overhead in a few days. If it does, ask him again.

Soft-top
First sessions and small, weak waves
Floaty, forgiving and safe to fall off. What Falaga puts beginners on, and what plenty of good surfers ride on a small day.
Longboard
Small waves, easy paddling, style
Catches almost anything and keeps you surfing on days when a shortboard sinks. Also the fastest way to get a lot of waves under you.
Shortboard
Confident surfers in decent waves
Rewards good positioning and punishes bad wave choice. Worth renting once your take-off is reliable, not before.
Step-up
Bigger, faster days
A little more length and volume than your normal shortboard, for when the swell is up and you need paddle speed and hold.
Groveller
Small, gutless days
Wide and full, made to generate speed in waves that would otherwise not be worth paddling for.

Can Justin help me rent a surfboard?
Yes. Falaga does not run a rental shop, but Justin will work out which board suits your surfing and the forecast — soft-top, longboard, shortboard, step-up or groveller — and point you to somewhere that has it. Rental is around Rp 300,000 on average and varies with the board.
Where will we surf?
Sessions run around the Bukit Peninsula, South Bali, near spots such as Uluwatu, Balangan, Dreamland. Falaga has no fixed storefront or single beach — Justin picks the spot and the time from the conditions on the day and the level of the surfer, which is exactly why the lessons work for beginners and improving surfers alike. He confirms the meeting point with you over WhatsApp before the session.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellations made after 8 PM on the day before your lesson are charged 50% of the lesson price. Damage to a rental surfboard is not covered by the rental price. If a board is broken it is the renter’s responsibility, and the rental shop will charge for the repair.
